"We paid only a quarter of the new price, even though there were several bidders."

Renovation specialist Mattias Vanderstraeten from Opwijk in Flemish Brabant was looking for joinery equipment. Interior builder Willem Schulpen from Alblasserdam had this for sale after taking over his business. Through Troostwijk Auctions, they found each other.

Circular business philosophy

Mattias Vanderstraeten runs a renovation company and likes to work with recycled materials on the basis of a circular business philosophy. For him, Troostwijk Auctions is an advantageous supply channel for machines and tools. "I spotted on Troostwijk's website that a joinery in the Netherlands, Ritmeester BV, was offering tools for sale. The advantage with Troostwijk is that you find second-hand items at a considerably lower price than through classified ads and, most importantly, you receive invoices. As a company, that's desirable; it doesn't happen on the ordinary second-hand market. Because we are a circular company, I also find it important that we can reuse sheet material. That totally matches our corporate values."

Super handy Troostwijk app

Through the auction, Mattias Vanderstraeten snapped up a perfectly maintained saw table, belt sander and sheet material. "The Troostwijk app was very handy for bidding and follow-up," Mattias says. "If you are looking for something, you can quickly find a detailed description of the lots at the moment via the app ánd you always know perfectly what the status of your file is."

Quarter of the new price

The collection day itself was also well organised, he nods. "Troostwijk tells you the days on which you can collect your lots and you know perfectly the dimensions and weight. The welcome was very pleasant: an on-site Troostwijk employee helped us find our lots. Willem, the owner, even helped us load up. So a fine experience, especially as we paid only a quarter of the new price through this route, even though there were several bidders in the final stage of the auction."
