Gold medallist Fleur Jong’s shirt and hockey players’ jerseys go under the hammer for charity

At the end of November, Fonds Gehandicaptensport will hold a special online auction via Troostwijk Auctions. Unique pieces of sports memorabilia will go under the digital hammer to raise money to fund sports programmes and events that promote the integration and participation of people with disabilities. Among the auction items is a shirt from the Dutch national football team from the recent European Championships, as well as signature items from several Paralympians.

In the Netherlands, there are 1.7 million people with disabilities who require extra support to participate in sports. Fonds Gehandicaptensport aims to make sports accessible for everyone with a disability, close to home. In addition to fundraising, Fonds Gehandicaptensport hopes the auction will also increase awareness and visibility for disabled sports.

Rackets and Shirts from Champions
Dozens of items from top athletes will be auctioned between 22 November and 29 November on the online platform of Troostwijk Auctions. Several Paralympians have donated items, including Fleur Jong's shirt, who won gold in the 100-meter sprint. Bidders can also vie for the shirt of Kelly van Zon, who secured three consecutive gold medals in the singles at the Paralympic Games. Additionally, there is a jacket signed by short-track stars Suzanne Schulting, Xandra Velzeboer, and Angel Daleman.

A selection of other notable items includes:

  • A signed shirt from the Dutch national football team from the 2024 European Championship
  • A tennis racket from wheelchair tennis player Diede de Groot, who won silver in Paris
  • A framed shirt from the Dutch women's water polo team
  • An autographed shirt of the Dutch field hockey men, who claimed gold in Paris
  • A shirt worn by bronze medallist Noah Mbuyamba during the World Championships in Japan

Sports Accessible for Everyone
“We are incredibly grateful to be able to auction such fantastic items, and we hope to raise a significant amount. This would greatly help us improve the sports landscape for people with disabilities in a sustainable way. Together, we can give everyone the opportunity to participate in and excel in sports, regardless of physical limitations,” says Nike Boor, Director of Fonds Gehandicaptensport.

Annelies van den Dool, Brand & Communication Manager at Troostwijk: “Not only are there amazing items up for auction, but the cause is so much greater. The importance of sports for well-being, enjoyment, and integration cannot be overstated. We are delighted to use the strength of our platform to support this initiative. We hope for as many bids as possible, and high ones at that.”

How to Participate
All items will go live simultaneously at 10:00 am on 22 November on the Troostwijk Auctions online platform. To take part in the auction, participants must create a Troostwijk account, which is free of charge. Participants must have a Dutch or Belgian address for delivery and be at least eighteen years old. The auction closes at 7:00 pm on 29 November.

About the Fonds Gehandicaptensport
In the Netherlands, there are 1.7 million people with disabilities who need extra support to be able to participate in sports. Not only are there fewer sports facilities available for them, but the costs of sports equipment for people with disabilities are often significantly higher than for those without. This creates an unequal and unfair playing field for athletes with and without disabilities. The mission of Fonds Gehandicaptensport is to make sports accessible for everyone with a disability, close to home, ensuring they can always and everywhere participate in sports.
