PRESS RELEASE
27 November 2024, Loon op Zand
Villa Le Blaireau in Loon op Zand is one of the most striking architectural landmarks in Brabant. Its extensive art collection (both indoors and outdoors) and impressive interior make the villa truly iconic. Due to the redevelopment of Villa Le Blaireau, all its artworks – ranging from an oil painting by Jan Steen to a life-size bronze sculpture by Jan Vermaat – as well as its luxurious furnishings are now being auctioned online through Troostwijk Auctions. Bidding is open until Wednesday, 4 December, with the auction closing at 7:00 PM.
The late Jacques de Leeuw, founder of publishing group Audax, designed and decorated Villa Le Blaireau entirely to his taste. For years, the villa's art collection and interior remained a mystery to the public. Now, for the first time, this splendour – and that’s no exaggeration – is being unveiled and auctioned via Troostwijk Auctions' online platform.
Eclectic Style: Interior, Art Collection, and Sculpture Garden
The style of the villa's interior, art collection, and sculpture garden can best be described as ‘eclectic,’ spanning Victorian, neoclassical, late Gothic, and neo-Renaissance influences. Are you an art lover, interior designer or stylist, collector, or simply a bon vivant? Then this auction is worth exploring – there’s bound to be something that suits your taste.
Interior: A Jan Steen and Much More Art
De Leeuw brought together everything he loved within the villa. The interior design was masterminded by interior architect Peter Heuvelmans, who described it in a book commissioned by De Leeuw as his most extravagant project: “It became one grand work of art.”
The auction includes sculptures and paintings by artists such as Karel Appel and the ‘fantastic realism’ of Eugène Peters. Among the highlights is a Jan Steen painting! Other items on offer include a Steinway grand piano, a classical harp, marble columns, a marble wall relief, a Gasparini organ, and more.
Exterior: An Impressive Sculpture Garden
The villa’s park-like grounds feature an extraordinary sculpture garden, showcasing works by Ton Buynsters from Haaren, Jan Vermaat, Harry van Amelsfoort, Ton Mooy, and Eugène Peters. The collection is remarkably diverse. Whether you prefer male and female figures or a bronze red deer or elephant for your garden, this auction has it all. Explore all 305 lots in the auction.
